The Himalayan mountains are home to some of earth's most breathtaking views and travel destinations. However, it's also home to some of earth's most difficult terrain and spiritual darkness. Mt Zion partners with a ministry that recruits and trains leaders to be professional trekking guides that are passionate about sharing the good news in the remote areas of the Himalayas. They train Ethnic Tibetans and Nepalis 5 days a week to be trekking guides and church planters. This allows them to:
As groups, teams, and commercial trips go with these guides, it helps make this a sustainable strategy. Currently, they do a one to two year apprenticeship for our guides. After the contract is over, they will be able to work in many different fields- trekking, social development, disaster relief, non profits, and religious work. Our hope is this will increase our Gospel footprint throughout the Himalayas!
- Get access to the remote areas by being trekking guides.
- Get a salary as a professional trekking guide as a "tent maker" so that they can be available for trainings and trekking trips whenever needed.
- Receive ongoing training in church planting, professional guiding, risk management, disaster relief, discipleship, leadership, theology, accountability, organization, and social relief.
